Case Study: Company Details

How can we make sure our salespersons select the correct company on a quote?

Problem:

Company selection was originally designed using a simple single-select dropdown. However, as our business expanded, we were encountering companies with similar names all over the country. This was causing the incorrect company to be chosen, which had downstream effects with delivery, billing, and tax issues.

A/B testing.

We knew that besides the company name, there were two other identifiers for each company: address and internal company ID. We did not know which of the two our salespeople were familiar with, so with our engineers and using Launch Darkly, we created two different designs and then followed up with a survey to determine which direction would be most successful.

Results.

Feedback for each design was positive, however each group suggested that we include the other detail: those using the addresses wanted to see the company ID, and those who saw the company ID wanted to see the addresses. We quickly came up with a solution that displayed both, greatly reducing the amount of errors.
